This program has been carefully designed to train you, step-by-step, to create safe, intelligent and inspiring vinyasa yoga classes, find and cultivate your own voice, explore in depth the craft of teaching yoga preparing you to skillfully navigate this role, while instilling in you an abiding reverence and respect for the practice of yoga.

We study 50 asana through the lens of alignment, actions within the pose, hands-on adjustments, transitions into and out of the poses, and the benefits of each one. You begin teaching practice the first weekend! Each student practices ‘opening a class,’ ‘leading the OM,’ teaching a kriya, and teaching an opening vinyasa of their own design. As the training program develops, each student observes classes, offers ‘hands-on-adjustments’ to classmates and other students, and assists a teacher. The program culminates in each student designing a comprehensive, 90-minute vinyasa yoga class, and then teaching that class 3 times before graduation, receiving feedback and encouragement at every turn. Rather than giving you a class plan and script to teach, we teach you how and why to make sequencing choices, and encourage you to find your own language to authentically transmit your understanding of yoga. To enhance the classroom learning, students are required to practice yoga 4 times a week (unlimited classes at Wake Up Yoga are included in tuition), keep a practice journal, and begin to cultivate a home practice.

During this training you will be introduced to the language of Sanskrit, including correct pronunciation and why that is important, and learn to write and eventually even read Devanagri script. We’ll apply the precision of Sanskrit sounds to a study of the Yoga Sutra of Patanjali, chanting the first 2 chapters of this text, and moving toward a deeper understanding of the path of yoga. You’ll learn ancient and powerful mantras, and be introduced to the Gods and Goddesses in the Hindu Pantheon so that you can relate to them as symbols of your own grace, goodness, and light.

We study Physical and Energetic Anatomy, Pranayama, Ayurveda, Meditation, and Nada Yoga, the yoga of sound. There are books to read, essays and responses to submit, and small group meetings for teaching practice and fostering friendship and community. Each of our TT students is matched up with a mentor who has been through the program and is currently teaching yoga. This relationship becomes another way to reinforce the learning, and provides additional support and encouragement for what can be a very challenging program. At the end of the training, you will have a solid foundation on which to build a lifelong relationship with the path and practice of yoga. You will have the confidence to teach, and the competence to do that well. You will feel yourself connected to a warm and vibrant cOMmUNITY, and you will be closer to knowing the Truth of who you really are.
