· April 14, is Sakura Sunday Celebration at the Horticultural Center in West Fairmount Park --- the heart and soul of the Festival which takes place under the canopy of ornamental Japanese cherry trees first planted in 1926.
o Beginning at 7 a.m. athletes compete in the annual Cherry Blossom 5K, running or walking a route that starts at the Horticultural Center in Fairmount Park and wends its way through the Centennial District beneath a canopy of cherry blossom trees. $20 JASGP member/ $25 non-member/ $30 on-site (cash only) Registration online.
o 10:30 a.m. – 4 p.m. Sakura Sunday offers a breathtakingly beautiful celebration of spring in the Japanese tradition. Japanese festival foods of all kinds; live music and dance performances; martial-arts demonstrations; crafts and activities for all ages, such as calligraphy and origami. The Prettiest Pet in Pink Parade for dogs returns. Fairmount Park’s beloved Shofuso Japanese House and Garden will also be open for tours throughout the day and for Kamishibai Story time. Admission is $5 for adults and free for children 14 and under. Admission to the park’s Shofuso House tour is additional.
