2016 Philadelphia Chinese Lantern Festival at Franklin Square

Appearing for the first time in the Northeast U.S., the Chinese Lantern Festival is a celebration of light and culture that features artisans from China and the Philadelphia region. For seven weeks, Franklin Square will glow with more than 25 larger-than-life illuminated displays of giant flowers, a three-story pagoda, a huge Chinese dragon and much more, created using traditional Chinese methods with thousands of LED lights in brilliant colors. Festival-goers will enjoy daily performances, culinary exploration, crafts by working artists, and still be able to play Philly Mini Golf, ride the Parx Liberty Carousel, and enjoy Center City's premier play place during the duration of the festival.

Daytime Historic Site Tours at Eastern State Penitentiary Historic Site

Eastern State Penitentiary Historic Site was once the most famous and expensive prison in the world, but stands today in ruin, a haunting world of crumbling cellblocks and empty guard towers. Tours today include the cellblocks, solitary punishment cells, Al Capone's Cell, and Death Row. Admission includes The Voices of Eastern State Audio Tour narrated by actor Steve Buscemi.

    Spring Training: Cardio Kickboxing

Integrating elements of kickboxing and boxing into a program that utilizes a heavy bag and incorporates other exercises to maximize results, grab a pair of gloves and prepare for an hour of intense, calorie burning fun. This promises to be one of the best hours of your day. Gloves are provided. This is an all-levels, no-contact, no-fighting, free class. Spring Training is presented by the Rothman Institute and proudly sponsored by Jefferson Health.

    Creek Critters

Join a freshwater stream investigation. We will collect and identify all the living things that we can find. All will be released unharmed. The diversity of insects, fish, and amphibians will give an indication of water quality. Wear sturdy water shoes or old sneakers. Expect to get wet! If you have a net, bring it along. Pre-registration is required. Meet in parking lot #3 near the kiosk. Ages: adults and children 6 and up.

    Spring Blooms at Longwood Gardens

Enjoy hundreds of lush acres featuring burgeoning gardens of daffodils, tulips, azaleas, and more, while flowering magnolias and cherry trees color the landscape. Indoors, lilies, delphiniums, echium, and hydrangeas take center stage, filling Longwood's Conservatory with fragrance and color. During peak bloom, Longwood's historic 600-foot long Flower Garden Walk boasts over 240,000 tulips and other seasonal blooms in a rainbow of colors.
