The Mumbles and The Brothers Yares

World Cafe Live

3025 Walnut Street Philadelphia PA 19104
  • Thursday July 12th 2012

The Mumbles are a New Orleans, LA-based Avant-Soul Duo: A tiny band with a mighty sound. Using two keyboards and a drum kit, they combine soul music with avant and old time jazz to create "pop songs in the key of partying down" (Time Out New York). Keysman Keith Burnstein and drummer Ethan Shorter met in the rhythm section of a 14-piece hip-hop orchestra, soon striking out on their own in late 2006 to write tunes that would become Mumbles mainstays.

Also Performing: The Brothers Yares

Two brothers, 16 strings, add in a little love and abuse, and you have: The Brothers Yares. For most of their lives, the two brothers, Ami and Gavri Tov, have been making music, sometimes together and sometimes not. When they do make music together, expect a bumping good time with Gavri Tov covering the low ground on the upright bass and Ami opting for the high ground on vocals and 12-string guitar. Their styles range from two sides of the Atlantic, Americana to Irish and they even get as far as the Middle East, where both brothers have spent significant amounts of time.
