Now in its 9th year, DesignPhiladelphia brings together individuals and organizations from across the design spectrum, building valuable community relationships. The 2013 DesignPhiladelphia Festival, held Oct. 10-18, is a citywide celebration of nearly 120 events spotlighting Philadelphia as a hub of creativity and innovation while increasing public awareness of the role that design plays in our everyday lives. It is one of the first and largest design festivals in the country. Programming includes a mixture of exhibitions, lectures and public forums, book signings, workshops, and open studios across design disciplines. Set in stores, galleries, museums, universities, warehouses, public spaces, and city streets, the Festival is a signature event of the Philadelphia Center for Architecture.

The DesignPhiladelphia initiative unites the creative disciplines – from architecture to interior design, fashion to product design, multi-media to graphic design – reinforcing the message that Philadelphia is a rich resource for creativity, innovation and cultural vibrancy. Through, its open source model, DesignPhiladelphia demonstrates, supports, and promotes the ability that design has to generate innovation, solve problems, enhance daily life and influence both the perception and economics of the region. Through the breadth of our events, DesignPhiladelphia showcases the role that design has played historically in this region, and celebrates Philadelphia’s contemporary significance as a center for creative advancement.
