The cast bronze sculpture represents the fictional movie character Rocky Balboa dressed in classic boxing attire. Temporarily located at the east steps of the Philadelphia Museum of Art for movie filming, the artwork was permanently sited at the Wachovia Center in South Philadelphia. In February of 2006, the artwork was moved from the Wachovia Center in South Philadelphia, and on September 7, 2006 it was installed in its current location across from Eakins Oval, just to the right of the Art Museum steps. The artwork was given as a gift to the City of Philadelphia (in 1982) after the filming of Rocky III from actor Sylvester Stallone.
