Instructor Ramon Townsend introduces participants to the basic materials and steps employed in traditional book repair work. Participants will be virtually taught basic book repair techniques, and in the process learn about the book’s components and traditional hand bookbinding methods.
Participants will deconstruct the book by removing the textblock from the front coverboard and spine; scrape off glue and any lining from the exposed spine; remove several signatures; perform paper repair; resew the book; and reattach the front coverboard and spine. The book along with additional materials are included, and will be shipped via mail to your home prior to the workshop. You will need to supply a few household items which will not be provided.
Workshops are conducted virtually via GOOGLE MEET. All participants must have access to Google Meet and a computer, tablet or smartphone with a camera to take part.
