    The Newlin Series: “Seeing the Enslaved Cook: Behind the Stereotypes & the Myths”

    PLEASE NOTE: Due to ongoing concerns with the COVID-19 pandemic, the Newlin Series programs scheduled for August will be going virtual. The presentations will be free to the public, but attendees must register ahead of time through Zoom.

     

    Enslaved cooks frequently appear in the historical record, but the lack of personal information about them often leaves us with a problematic view. Historic cooks Jerome Bias & Karen Becker will look at enslaved cooks as skilled tradespeople.
