    Barnes Takeover: Sattriya Dance Company

    The Barnes Foundation

    Where:
2025 Benjamin Franklin Parkway, Philadelphia, PA 19130
    When:
    • Saturday April 20th 2019, 8:00pm to 10:00pm
The Barnes Takeover series is back for 2019! Join us for three fresh artistic interpretations of the collection before heading into the galleries. First up this April is a performance by Madhusmita Bora and Prerona Bhuyan, cofounders of the Philadelphia-based Sattriya Dance Company.

Sattriya is a 600-year-old dance tradition from northern India that celebrates Krishna. Through this dance form, Bora and Bhuyan will share stories about the impish god, drawing inspiration from paintings in the collection—mother-child portraits, nudes, and scenes with wild animals—that speak to various aspects of the deity’s life.

Find out if the performers can change the way you see the Barnes collection, and get ready for future Takeovers in this seriesfeaturing performance artist Morgan FitzPatrick Andrews on May 18 and drag songstress Cookie Diorio on June 13.
