Celebrate LGBTQ+ Pride Month in Philly!

Happy Pride Month Philly!

Every June, the US observes Pride Month. Pride month is a celebration of the progress the LGBTQ community has made, but also a time to recognize the distance we still have to go to achieve full equality. The month of June was chosen in honor of the Stonewall Riots of 1969, largely credited with being the birth of the modern LGBTQ+ Pride movement. For those who don’t know, Stonewall refers to the days of riots and protests at NYC’s historic Stonewall Inn following police harassment of the LGBTQ+ patrons.

2019 marked the 50th anniversary of Stonewall, and while we still have a long way to go before reaching true equity for our queer family, there is still so much to celebrate. Philly is one of the best places to do it! Aside from making waves just years ago by introducing the "More Colors, More Pride" variation to the traditional rainbow flag, Philadelphia was in one of the first groups of cities to introduce a yearly Pride celebration in the years following Stonewall.
