Running on the Trails
Kristen Vinh, Strategic Communications Manager
"One of my favorite fall activities as the weather starts to cool down is to go for a run on one of Philadelphia's many trails! One of my new favorite places is the Manayunk Bridge Trail, which connects the Schuylkill River Trail with the Cywynd Trail. The bridge spans the Schuylkill River and has some amazing views for your run!"
Lauren Gilmore, Manager of Membership & Administration
"Berthe Morisot: Woman Impressionist will be the first dedicated presentation of Morisot’s work to be held in the US since 1987. This exhibition traces the exceptional path of a woman who defied the social norms of her time to join the Parisian avant-garde. There is also some wonderful contemporary programming around it with talks like the Fashion and Feminism Symposium, multiple “Barnes Takeovers” and the First Free Sunday theme for November being: She Creates..."
Hiking in the Wissahickon
Allison Vanyur, Grants & Events Manager
"In my opinion, the epitome of fall is experiencing the changing seasons amongst nature. The Wissahickon has so many scenic hiking trails with postcard-worthy fall foliage. A morning fall hike is the perfect way to escape the city buzz and embrace the season!"
Elizabeth Estrada, Digital Communcations Coordinator
"An immersive experience at a haunted house inside one of the country’s most famous prisons? Sign me up! Eastern State Penitentiary’s Terror Behind the Walls delivers a high caliber of terrifying theatric performances, creative and incredibly executed set design and of course—the scary shocks and surprises that will make you scream and possibly regret ever going. It’s the perfect after-hours fall activity..."
1001 Longwood Road Route 1 and Route 52 Kennett Square PA 19348
Fall, all of it, the entire season, it's the only event you need
Anne Marie Rhoades, Vice President of Advocacy & Strategic Partnerships
"Two of the most perfect places to catch fall in all its crisp-aired, leaf-changing glory--no offense, Rittenhouse Square--are the Brandywine River Museum of Art and Longwood Gardens. They're only a short drive from Philadelphia, but they're far enough out that even my midwestern "give me trees full of red and yellow and a pumpkin patch and maybe some apple cider and give them to me NOW" heart is happy there. While these two outdoor-centric organizations have regular programming and inside spaces, it's the landscape that seals the deal..."
"Merrymead has quickly become a tradition in our household. For the quintessential fall experience, and something for everyone, this is it. Pick a pumpkin, get some flowers, go through the corn maze, take a hayride and top it off with some homemade ice cream..."
Stuart Adair, Chief Officer for Finance & Administration
"The 35 large-scale photographs by Philadelphia based artists, John E. Dowell, installation and altarpiece featured in Cotton: The Soft Dangerous Beauty of the Past explore the dichotomy between the beauty of the plant, and its inexorable link to the horrors of chattel slavery in the U.S. The exhibition also evokes the often overlooked history of slavery in the North, specifically in New York City..."
Philadelphia Clef Club of Jazz and Performing Arts
Christine Dancey, Audience Services Manager
"The Philadelphia Clef Club of Jazz is a historical landmark that has birthed and hosted some of the greatest contemporary Jazz musicians. Their current concert series, "Jazz Cultural Voices" takes its audience on a figurative trip around the world as local Jazz musicians apply a unique cultural spin on the popular genre. The concert runs every third saturday of the month and tickets are only $20. Not to mention they have a quaint bar in their auditorium so the experience encourages movement and interaction. The next concert features Jamaaladeen Tacuma, who's style is influences by ancient African Gnawa traditional instrumentation..."
