No one has ever brought the dark underbelly of Los Angeles as fully alive as the great mystery writer, Raymond Chandler (1888-1959). A failed oil company executive who had never published a word at the age of 44. Unlike his colleague Dash Hammett, Chandler had never been a Pinkerton or any other kind of detective. When Chandler finally decided that he did want to write, he turned not to Hammett or James M.Cain, but to Erle Stanley Gardner, the creator of Perry Mason, as his model and mentor. On Friday, June 14th at 11:00 A.M., Central Senior Services presents "Mr. Los Angeles: Raymond Chandler and his world. This program is free, but pre-registration is required.
