Sponsored by the Philadelphia Jazz Legacy Project and the 14th in an online series focusing on the many aspects of jazz in Philadelphia, past and present. This online talk will feature two of the city's most notable jazz pianists: Kendrah Butler-Waters and Tom Lawton. Both of these accomplished and creative musicians didn't get to where they are by themselves, but by listening to their favorite jazz pianists working in Philadelphia.
Kendrah Butler-Waters, violinist, composer and educator, music to accompany Levar Burton’s reading of sci-fi master (and former Temple University creative writing prof.) Samuel R. Delany’s short story “Driftglass” for Burton’s hugely popular podcast, Levar Burton Reads.
Tom Lawton is a Philadelphia-based jazz pianist and composer who has for several decades had a non-stop career playing countless club and concert gigs, composing and directing memorable ensemble pieces, appearing on numerous recordings, and associating with the best musicians.
