The Independence Hall Association (IHA) was founded in 1942 to spearhead the creation of Independence National Historical Park. IHA is written into the enabling legislation of the Park, and stands as an independent group of private concerned citizens overseeing and being consulted on matters concerning the Park. IHA helped in the effort to reconstruct the Declaration House by donating the statue of the Signer, which stands across the street from the Independence Hall group of buildings and also encouraged development of guidebooks for Philadelphia. The IHA owns the website ushistory.org, which supports its mission to educate the public about the Revolutionary and Colonial eras of American history, as well as Philadelphia generally.
