IDSA Philly was formed in 1976 and represents members from Eastern Pennsylvania, Southern New Jersey, and Delaware, representing members who specialize in a variety of different fields, including consumer products, furniture, lighting, exhibits, transportation, and medical equipment.

IDSA Philly sponsors events which bring local industrial designers together to learn from each other as well as network for business opportunities. Activities include guest lecturers, museum tours, software tutorials, manufacturing technique updates and portfolio reviews. The professional chapter is also active with its two accredited student chapters, The University of the Arts and Philadelphia University.
