Artist: Paul Santoleri
Installation: 2004
Materials: fresco
Council District: 3
Inspired by West Philadelphia, Paul Santoleri incorporated details of the neighborhood's decorative architecture, elaborate cornices, and building facades to create a fresco mural for the Walnut Street West Library Branch. Imagery of plants and flowers found in the local gardens complement the area's unique architecture. Located in the library's main entrance the artwork can be seen from both the upper and lower floors. The artist worked on-site for 6 weeks to make the fresco with lime and colored pigments.
