Pentimenti Gallery continues its spring season with a solo exhibition by CORNELIA HEDIGER.
For 'Doppelgänger', Cornelia Hediger presents a series of works consisting of multiple carefully choreographed, individual, full-frame photographs assembled into single artworks. Each assemblage is constructed of six to nine photographs and utilizes a grid system that serves to maintain the photographic integrity of each photograph while allowing Hediger to exaggerate and emphasize certain spatial areas.
For these complex pictorial narratives, Hediger turns the literal and figurative lens on herself as both photographer and model, acting out internal struggles in the external world. These ‘doppelgängers’ seem to represent ideas of hope and despair, good and bad, past and present, and often times face each other, watching and wondering if the other is trustworthy. Her subjects appear elongated, fragmented or distorted, and live within surreal, timeless settings dominated by rich color.
