    Boathouse Row

    Where
    Kelly Drive Philadelphia PA 19130

To motorists cruising on Interstate 76 across the Schuylkill River, Boathouse Row is a series of charming Victorian structures decorated with Christmas lights all year round. To the seemingly infinite number of joggers, rollerbladers and dog walkers of Kelly Drive, Boathouse Row is a picturesque place to stretch or adjust laces. But to rowers everywhere, Boathouse Row is the center of athletic activity in Philadelphia. The 10 clubs represented by the boathouses comprise the Schuylkill Navy, which was founded in 1858. While the clubs have changed, they still make up the nation's oldest amateur athletic association. Regattas and races, including the Stotesbury Cup and the Philadelphia Youth Regatta, are held between the months of May and July. The biggest of these is the Dad Vail, which is the largest college regatta in the country and draws a proportionate number of partiers to the riverbanks.
