Conversation with Spencer Finch, Judith Tannenbaum, and Richard Torchia
to be followed immediately by an opening reception in the Spruance Gallery.
This exhibition is planned in conjunction with Finch's When You Look on the River and Sky, a project on the RiverLink ferry (operating between Camden and Philadelphia) developed for Whitman at 200: Art and Democracy. The works on view focus on the New York-based artist's inventive application of the procedures, materials, and metaphors related to photography to explore our perception of transient phenomena, in particular, light and its color at specific times and locations. Dating from 1995 to the present, the selection of photographs, prints, drawings, and sculpture addresses Finch's ongoing investigation of the tensions between documentation, transcription, and subjective experience.
