Cerulean Arts is pleased to present Divergences featuring sculptures by Matthew Courtney and paintings by Frederic C. Kaplan. In his ceramic/mixed media works, Matthew Courtney straddles the line between art-making and play, adult and child, serious and humorous. Creating a world populated by familiar objects altered, multiplied and reassembled, he sets out searching for a specific meaning, but almost always arrives at an alternate destination. Kaplan’s paintings in oil, acrylic and gouache incorporate both abstract and representational elements over a geometric structure. Fascinated by physics, his work reflects a search for meaning between his personal experience and cosmic theories of light, space and time. Opening Reception: Friday, January 6, 5-8pm; Artists' Talk: Sunday, January 22, 2pm.
