Michele Foster Lucas was born in Philadelphia and moved to southern New Jersey after high school. She began to master the art of charcoal pastel drawing without formal training. Lucas eventually moved to painting with oils and acrylics on canvas, board, or whatever materials she could find. Her paintings feature strong application of brilliant colors and figures that celebrate the power and beauty of Black women.

Lucas was a featured artist at the Essence of African Fashion Show and at the highly prestigious October Gallery held in Philadelphia, which awarded her “Best in Show.” Her work has been displayed at the Remee Gallery, the Annual Art in the Garden in Washington DC and featured at the African American Museum in Philadelphia, PA.
