A casual, rustic dining experience with no pretense to be found. That is precisely the focus behind Mémé restaurant. David Katz wanted to open the kind of restaurant he'd like to dine in and that's exactly what he did at the corner of 22nd and Spruce streets in Philadelphia's
Fitler Square neighborhood. Mémé, named for David's Moroccan Grandmother, exudes a welcoming feeling right from the door. The small dining room is comprised of solid cherry wood tables, food related photos on the wall, and a blackboard menu. The food is rustic new American with a focus on flavors that work and quality ingredients supplied mostly by local sources. The 36 bottle wine list walks the same unassuming, artisan path as the cuisine at Mémé, with almost exclusively estate bottled wines from the U.S., France, and Italy. "When I pictured having my own place, the most exciting idea had always been the thought of making the guests feel like they're in my home...not so much just another restaurant", said David. "Just grab someone and tell em' what you want!"
